Ohio Retirement Study Council Chairman Adam Bird and Vice Chairman Mark Romanchuk will be the Special Guests at the STRS Ohio Retirement Board meeting on March 17 at 11:30 am.
For any of you who are not already aware, it was Clermont County Representative Adam Bird who slipped in the last minute amendment to Ohio's Budget Bill 96 to remove four of seven of our democratically elected members on our STRS Ohio Board and replace them with government appointees.
It was Senator Romanchuk who introduced Senate Bill 69 to declare the General Assembly's intent to enact legislation to reform the law governing the state's public retirement systems.
OEA, OFT, OH AAUP, and ORTA acted quickly to block this aggressive action by Rep. Bird to remove our voices on the STRS Ohio Board. There is currently an injunction in place to stop this hostile takeover of our pension board.
This injunction, filed by Glenetta Krause on behalf of Ohio's active and retired teachers, has been appealed by STRS Ohio.
That appeal will be heard by the 10th District Court of Appeals on March 24, 2026, at 10:45 am. We will post the link for you to attend the oral arguments as soon as it is available.
Now, back to the original point of this post.
Why did Rep. Bird and Senator Romanchuk request to speak at the first STRS Board meeting after Dr. Rudy Fichtenbaum was removed from his seat as Board Chair?
It is crucially important that Ohio's teachers make their presence known at the Board meeting on March 17th.
Please, if possible, attend this meeting in person.
If you are not able to attend in person, please attend virtually. STRS Ohio does keep a record of the number of people who attend Board meetings virtually.
